Comparsa de Carnaval HabanaThe University of Miami Libraries is contributing materials to the Digital Library of the Caribbean from the University of Miami Libraries Digital Collections.

 

The Cuban Heritage Collection and Special Collections at the University of Miami Libraries hold a diverse range of books, periodicals, photographs, manuscripts, and other primary source materials documenting the history, life, and cultures of Caribbean. Selected materials from the collections have been digitized and are available online.

Bumboats, Cuba Collections available in the Digital Library of the Caribbean include the following:

Cuban Postcard Collection: Postcards of landscapes, street scenes, monuments, and other views throughout Cuba, as well as scenes from the Cuban communities outside of Cuba.

Estus H. Magoon Collection: Photographs from the 1930s -1940s that document sanitation and public health projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, showing technical processes, construction sites, living conditions, and scenic views of countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, and Jamaica.

Manuel R. Bustamante Photograph Collection: Photographs that depict various aspects of the life, architecture, landscapes, and culture of Havana and other Cuban cities and towns, primarily from the turn of the 20th century. Many of these images were published by New York-based Munson Steamship Line in its Cuba Review magazine.

Tobacco Arts Collection: Art and ephemera associated with the Cuban tobacco industry, including commercial tobacco packaging labels, cigar trademarks, and cigar bands.

Caribbean Document Collection: Correspondence, legal and financial documents from the various islands of the Caribbean such as Antigua, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts, St. Christopher, Trinidad and Tobago from the 16th to the 19th century.
