Beginning in the 1970s, the Enid M. Baa Library of the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM) acquired an extensive collection of memorial booklets for U. S. Virgin Islands residents. Booklets offer detailed descriptions of the life and family connections of the deceased. The University of the Virgin Islands Libraries have continued to collect funeral booklets from families who wish to include them in the collection.

Permission to create electronic reproductions was requested from family members who donated booklets to the Baa Library. Public service announcements promoting the digitization project have also been used to request copyright permissions from family members. Signed copyright releases from the original collection are kept at the Baa Library.
