The National Library of Jamaica was established in 1979 and was founded on resources of the West India Reference Library (WIRL), established in 1894. The National Library of Jamaica has redefined the collection with specific emphasis on the acquisition of Jamaican materials in all formats: printed, audio-visual and digital. This acquisition of the national collection has been further strengthened by the Legal Deposit Act which was passed in 2002.
Riots and Rebellions is a digitized collection of resources from the National Library of Jamaica. The collection brings together books, pamphlets, government documents, maps, prints and photographs related to two landmark events in Jamaica's history: 1831 Sam Sharpe Rebellion / Baptist War and 1865 Morant Bay Rebellion.
