About Memoria Decolonial

Memoria (De)colonial is a non-profit organization based in Puerto Rico dedicated to rethinking colonial heritage sites and historical narratives through decolonial public history initiatives. The interdisciplinary group of scholars and community leaders develop public projects that interrupt colonial narratives by highlighting underrepresented histories and helping communities narrate their stories from place.

“Cartografías de la Memoria: A Study Guide” is an open educational resource (OER) aimed at contextualizing Memoria Decolonial’s cartographical archive of monuments. Catering primarily to undergraduate professors, this OER is a pedagogical tool for exploring decoloniality in the context of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The questions in “Cartografías de la Memoria: A Study Guide” ask students to critically analyze texts, monuments, and public art, and provide activities for imagining decolonial futures and alternate forms of conceiving identity.
