Shown above at the Hippocratic tree planting ceremony can Medical Association, Dr. Dwight L. Wilbur; University
which finalized three years of negotiations, are: (left to President Stephen C. O'Connell; Dr. Phars Decker, plant
right) Mr. Carl Whitcomb, research associate in ornamental pathologist, IFAS; and in the foreground, planting the tree:
horticulture and Dr. Eliot Roberts, chairman of ornamental Dr. Samuel P. Martin, (left) Health Center Provost and Dr.
horticulture, both of the University's Institute of Food and Walter "Terry" Marshall. The tree is now situated at the
Agricultural Sciences (IFAS); Mr. Alcibiades Carokis, Consul, front entrance of the Shands Teaching Hospital and, ClInks
Royal Greek Embassy, Washington; President of the Amerin. a unit of the Health Center.


The Health Center's library staff gave a historical perspective to the tree plant-
ing ceremonies with an exhibit in the library which featured information on Hip-
pocrates, the tree, and news articles and pictures on the trek of the sapling from
Greece to Gainesville. Looking at the exhibit are John Mitchell, (left) fourth-year
medical technology student, College of Health Related Professions, and Tom
bauer, a student assistant in the library.
