6( GAINESVTLLE, October ---Former General James A, VanFleet will
return to the University of Florida campus this weekend to see the Florida-
Auburn football game.
Van Fleet, who retired last year after serving as one of the great
military leaders of both World War II and the Korean conflict is no
stranger to the University where he served as head football coach and
professor of military science from 1921-24.
He is scheduled to arrive late Friday and plans to remain in
Gainesville throughout the weekend when he will also attend a special
reunion luncheon of the class of 1924.
George Milam, Jacksonville businessman and president of the 1924

class, issued the invitation .
The former Major General, who currently resides in Auburndale,
Florida has been in New York for several weeks on official business.
Contrary to popular belief, Van Fleet never attended the University
of Florida, but went to the Eartow Military Cademy which was one of
several small schools incorporate to form the University in 190$.
In 1946 he was recognized by the University with a "Van Fleet Day"
and was again honored four years ago when he spo'e during the Annual

Florida jlue Key Banquet held in conjunction with the 1950 Homecoming
weekend.
