MEMO
TO: Robert L. Gold
FROM: Bob Steinbach
SUBJECT: Possible Ribera garden structures
DATE: 2/20/87
I've checked briefly on the site and there appears to be at
least one and possibly two colonial house sites on this property.
The first was a tabby house which first appears on the Puente
map. This was owned by Agustina Perez and was located in the NE
corner of the present lot. The historic lot was 15 varas (42')
wide on St. George St. The house continues to appear on the early
British period maps but has disappeared by Rocque's time. My
suspicion is that it was one of a number of tabby houses torn
down by the British for firewood. Definitive house size would
have to await archaeological excavation, but an educated guess
would be something on the order of 16' X 32'.
The second house was a timber frame structure that appears
on the Rocque map. It is more or less square in plan and the
majority of it is probably under the Ribera house.
