8. The Testamentary Proceedings

Reels 6, 9 and 10, under the name of Miguel Isnardy, whose
testamentary was dated on March 2, 1803, does not mention any
house that could be identified as the one we are searching for.

9. 1799 Esoriturau 1799-1800

p. 79v. Will, July 12 Santiago Clark (native of Edinburgh) and
wife Margaret Cradick old residents of Florida, have no property
but a wooden house in the lot on St. George St., which is mortgaged
to James Tate for 1200 pesos payable 8 years from Sept. 26, 1796,
and one slave.

Notes Although we have a sale from James Clark to Miguel Isnard on
July 13, 1785, the house is not recorded in the Isnardy's testament
(and it remains in James Clark a name until 183% Clements map, on
which it appears as the "original claimant.

(Story of Carmonta See Eleanor Barnes)

JUAN MARTIN CARMONA: No. 65, Puente. No. 45 Rocque

Native of Seville, Spain.
Married 1744 Antonia Rodrigues of St. Augustine

Mrs. Carmona: Antonia Rodrigues
Born in March and baptised on the 12th of the same month
in 1727.
Daughter of Francisco Rodrigues and Alphonsa San Jurge (called
once Santiago y Monson)
This couple were married in 1721.
Mrs. Rodrigues died in 1732.
Francisco Rodriguez stood sponsor for his Carmona grandchild in 1749.

Francisco Rodrigue s Son of Juan Rodrigues and Lorensa Mendiola
Florenoia.
This couple (4rs. Carmona's grandparents) were married in 1679.

JUAN RODRIGUEZ s Born 1655. Was the son of Francisco Jacinta
Rodriguez of Castile, and Maria Ramirez Arsian.
This couple (Mrs. Carmona's great grandparents) were married
2/17A648.

MARIA RAMIREZ ARSIAN: Wife of Captain Francisco Jacinta Rodrigues
of Castle. Born 1627, daughter of Juan Dias and Maria Araian.
This couple were married 1623 (Mrs. Carmona's great great grand-
parents)

JUAN DIAS: Born 1599,-son of Luis Dias and Maria de Reyes.
This couple were the great great great grandparents of Mrs.
Carmona.

Now the name Carmona does not appear on the Fish list but
it would have been sold before he left.

Anyway it is the middle house and from the standpoint of
family, these are very old and very fine families.

REs No. 45..Salcedo.1788..

Note s Monorief Map. Shows what looks to be stone house
directly across from the de Hita place. With what looks
like wooden house in middle and stone house next.
These would be the 3 Rainsford places.

Note Puente's wording of these three on his map...

Stone...masonryo.... stone .Apparently the middle one was
different. Perhaps Yoncrief, too, wanted to show a difference.

But on BOTH for Alfonsa Avero's ...STONE.

Jeffrey definitely makes it as STONE as the Arrivas.

Now look at the blown up de Solis. (who was famous for his
stretching of blocks, which puts houses out of focus)
and the three same houses are on Rainsford, still of stone.

NOTE on the south side of the Arrivas, the checkered house
meaning wood...

All of this means that the Alphonsa Avero house was stone
and stayed of stone and was across from the de Hita except on
the de Solis, whose blocks are extended out of pro portion.

And it means that the stone house of Antonia Avero south
of Arrivas in 1763 was of stone, but pre 1769 was built of
wood..

Note especially...All of the maps give space where Puente
had the 2nd Arrivas House. The one you did not restore or
rebuild. They all indicate that space.

(Notes of Mrs. E. Barnes)

Ana de Naranjo's name appears on the package deal under the name
of Blanco. I have seen the name of Naranjo often. They were related
to the de la Cruz and to the Rodriguez family, too.

But one explanation why Joaquin Blanco Might have had some plot of
ground to sell for Ana de Naranjo is that he was the executor of
her will, This is so stated on her death record.

Albeit her name is not on the Puente list. So it is
what part of this section in question he was selling

uncertain just
for her.

Background an Ana de Naranjo:

Mother and father: Adjutant Alonso Naranjo of Seville, Spain, and
Isabel de la Cruz, native of the town of St. Augustine, were married
on April 4, 1673 br Father Antonio Lorenso Padilla.
They had betrothal ceremonies Feb. 25.
Captain .icolas deo oeyas and Captain Mateo Pacheoo stood as witnesses.

(tly other item on her Ana de Naranjo...

Sat. April th, 1753, Ana Maria Naranjo died. Dt. %f the above.
Joaohin Blanco was her executor. She was widows.

An item found which may not relate to Ana de Naranjo...

Baptism of a child in March 172U, parents Josof Gabriel
de Espana Prime and Ana de Aranjo, an Indian I

Then a child buried March 1724, No other listings.
Josef de Espana died lost ton the Bar" 1738 ...

I knew there were Indiana by "de la CGru" nafs.
Could be Ana was half Indian.

Re a The Saloedo places

let; Brief of the background.

Pedro Josef Salcedo was Regular Captain of the Ioyal Corpbaof the
Artillery and Commandant of the detaohment stationed in St. Augustine.

April 20, 1786 recognition of his marriargg loWsrpoorded in the Cathedral
Parish Records, said marriage having taken plade in Havana March 20, 1785.
The bride was Maria Dolores Galam or Maria Rodriguez Galan. Full transla-
tion is in the Canova transcripts pages 3 and kh, 784-1801 White Marriages.

Salcedo seems to miss the 1783 Census, the 1786 Census which was probably
taken before he arrived as I have not found him on either. He was on the
1793 Census, however. No. 129.

So far I have found no children nor was there any registered on the 1793
Census.

In the Escrituras No. 32v.. Nov. 22, 1784 is a full account of the
property he bought on St. George Street with its 3 uninhabitable houses.
That is why I do not understand why he missed ther1786 Census. Unless
he went back to Havana to get married in 1785.
On the 1788 Map plan they are listed thusly:
No. )44, Stone house
No. 16, Briok partitiones and some mortar B1. 7
No. U6, same..all property of Saleedo

On the Tax Ass. List: Bl. 12 the three are listed as Nos. 100, 101, 102..1790

The recitation of properties occurs in .aorituras No. 82v. when Salcedo
bought property.

Parks Hotel Page 11
Block 12

This is its explanation:

1767t British Government granted to Captain Andres Rainsford six tenths of
a block. Bounded west by Spanish Street, east by St. George, south by heirs
of Arrivas, north by James Clark. (lot and buildings)

Part os this is borne out on the Fish Account List.
Nol 42: Package deal under the name JOACHIN BLANCO. (He was husband of
Antonia de Avero, the one given the REAL Rodriguez house...a one story, flat
roof stone house, oatht-eBaplace thereoday) (Also Antonia Avero owned
the "so called Salazar house")

Anyway it was Joachin Blanco's name on the Fish list but under its heading
was also the Martin Carmona place being sold by Ana Naranjo ... so it is very
clear that the THREE HOUSES Rainsford got on his lot were on the Puente Map plan
as No. 66, Alfonsa or Ildephonsa de Avero
No. 65, Martin Cartona by Ana Naranjo
No. 64, Joaquin Blanco

The three that correspond to Nos. 44, h5, 46 on Rocque Mjp.
and Nos. 100, 101, 102 of the 1790 List.

Substantiation is that No. 47 is Mr. Clark. Rocque. 1788
As also No. 99: 1790

And on the 1783 Census James Clark is from Scotland, a maker of chains, and
living on St. George Street then.
No. 63 on Puente was owned by Juan de Rivera who sold to Luciano de Herrera
(one of the Spaniards remaining in St. Augustine during the British period)
January 1777. Herrera evidently sold to Clark before the Escrituras begin
listings.

What it all means is that the THREE HOUSES listed on both Puente and Rocque
are.....Ildephonsa's (Avero) Martin Carmona's and Blanco's. (One the sister
of Mrs. Arrivas, the other the brother in law of Mrs. Arrivas)
(or 66)
So you are re-constructing Ildephonsa Avero's house...No. 4/(oir who was Mrs.
Francisco Peres de la Rosa, whom she married 1734 and from whom she had
6 children.

If you go on to re-construct...you will have (besides the AVIRO-Perez de la
Rosa house) Juan Martin Carmona's house, No. 45 (or 65) and the Blanco-Avero
house, No. 46 (or 64).

To re-cap. Fish stated that Sept. 20, 1765 Capt. Rainsford bought this package.
Blanoo, Carmona by Nara mJo, and Ildephonsa's. He only mentioned haranjo and
Blanco...the Puente Map and the subsequent Escrituras No. 82 v...bears out the rest.

Parka Hotel--Page 12

By the greatest good fortune this was not all Capt. Rainsford bought.

Directly across the Street (St. George) Captain Rainsford bought August 20, 1777
....the Geronom6 de Hita House and the Barnardo Gonzales House....
See Fish Account List: Nos. 11, and 74.

See also Puente, Sq. E, Nos. 79 and 80.

Today this would be h5 feet in the yard of the so called Salazar, and 45 feet
right next to it north.

The house under re-construction now should be almost across from the Bernardo
Gonzales House...and Arrivas' 2nd house which you have not shown nor mentioned
should be across from the yard of the present day so called Salasar.

Arrivas had two places, one just north of the house today. Then comes Ildephonsa
Avero's (the one you currently are doing) then a space, then Garannm's, then
Blanoo' s....all property of Rainsford after 1767. UNTIL August of 1770 when
Thomas Stone owned it....(he was a Trader listed on De Brahm in 1771). It
was really sold at auction to pay Rainsford's debts.

Leonard Cecil bought it from Stone in 1783 and the next month in April sold it
to Robert Johnston.

It was Johnston's agent, William Slater, who sold it to Pedro Josef Salcedo
in 1784 in Novenber.
