Clear the way for
the
ONR
GASPARILLO:
"CLEAR THE WAY, clear
the way and let it be a
straight fight between the
ONR and the enemy," de-
df ,d Mr. Ferdie Ferreira,
eldorganiserot the Organi-
sation for National Recon-
struction at Gasparillo on
-Tuesday night.
Mr. Ferreira said that
the ONR was the only Par-
ty with the capabilities to
dislodge the 'enemy' and to
form the next Government
of the country. lie added:
"My advice to Weekes, Pan-
day, Millette, Best and the
rest is to clear the coast
and let it be a straight
fight between the enemy
and the ONR."
He said that the ONR had
the "political artillery to
destroy the enemy. We shall
despatch in time that
artillery in a most effective
manner and we ask them, in
the interest of the country,
to clear the way and let it
be a straight fight betWeen
the enemy and the ONR."
Mr. Ferreira quoted ex-
tensively from stories in
the 'Guardian' to show the
.chaos in the country.
He said that part of the
complacency with which
the 'enemy was affected

less even than the interest

Yet, despite that pen-
sioners were forced to wait
several months to collect
their pensions, and the
whole population literally
was in want.
FAILURES
Mr. Ferreira touched on
education and the spate of
failures among students
writing the GCE examina-
tions, the need for a total
reorganization of the whole
country based on.the "polit-
ics of conscience." He said
that the ONR had "clearly
shown that it. had the
capabilities to wrest the
country from the degrada-
tion into which it was
plunged by the PNM. The
people, in their own inter-
ests, and most definitely in
the interests of their chil-
dren, must remove the Gov-
ernment."
Mr. Vijay Seukeran chal-
lenged Rep. Winston Hinds
(PNM, Pointe-a-Pierre), if
he were in audience, or any-
time to "come out on the
public platform and tell the
people of Gasparillo what he
advocated for them in the
House of Representatives
for the five long years he.
was there."
Mr. Seukeran said that'
what was' ridiculous about
the whole affair was that
the Government had loaned
Guyana $96m, was prepared
to face all sentiments. to
the contrary to build a rac-
ing complex for $240m, that
was likely in the end to
reach $480m, and yet did iot
have the conscience to pro-
vide a simple inexpensive
pathway for the safety of
the children attending
school in the district, so
that it became necessary
for the parents and people
of Gasparillb to openly dem-
onstrate their disgust.
He said also that the inci-
dence of gastroenteritis
had increased from 6,501
cases in 1976 to 10,444 in 1980
and already for 1981 the fig
ure had reached 1,800 simply
because people could not
get clean, potable water.
and that health services,
the sanitation. services
were literally non-existent.
Because of the"silence" on
the part of Mr. Hinds in
Parliament and his refusal
-tb advocate anything what-
ever for the people of Gas-
parillo. in the face of pre-
sent conditions "he should
resign and I daresay, when
he is doing so to take the
rest of the PNM with him."
