PNM Council meets tomorrow
PRIME MINISTER and Political Leader of the ruling People's National Movement, Dr. Eric
Williams, has summoned a special General Council meeting of the party for tomorrow,
starting at 9 a.m. The meeting will be held at Balisier House, party headquarters.
Under the constitution of the PNM, a special meeting could he called at any time on the
written request of the Political Leader.
Purpose of the meeting was not disclosed, but sources suggested that the forthcoming
general elections could be one of the matters to come up for discussion.
Several important Bills are due to come before Parliament when it meets again. These
include the amendments to the Education Act, and the Rent Control Bills, and it was
suggested that Dr. Williams might want to discuss these issues with the General Council.
The last regular meeting of the General Council was to he held on Sunday, February 15,
but it was postponed because of the Carnival celebrations.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sunday, March 15. However, Dr. Williams has
requested the special meeting for tomorrow.
