A 'terrible shock'
for Mayor Steele
SAN FERNANDO
SAN FERNANDO'S Mayor, Councillor William Darley Steele,
said "I am terribly shocked, believe me, I am deeply shocked to
know that Dr. Williams has died, and I hope that the people of
Trinidad and Tobago will appreciate now what we have lost, and
would make every effort to see to it that the things that he
strived to achieve we would continue to seek, and that we shall
keep our nation free and democratic."
Mayor Steele said it was important for the people to remain
calm and United, so that we can weather the storm with which
we could be beset by all those who have sought to disrupt our
country.
PRAY FOR GUIDANCE
"I hope they would now be prepared to realise that this is their
country, and they have a responsibility to assist in its proper
promotion and development,
"We need now to work to maintain our standards, our freedom
and our democracy, and, indeed, to ask in our prayers that God
guide us and preserve us in this world of turmoil and confusion.
The Mayor said he wanted to extend his very best wishes to the
country's new Prime Minister, and to assure him of the loyalty
and support of San Fermabdo Borough Council.
