Re: Fixed Capital Outlay Projects
1-725-8375 East Wing of Government House
1-725-8376 Haas House Renovation

Gentlemen:

We request your assistance in implementing the above referenced fixed
capital outlay projects for which funds were appropriated during the last
legislative session.

The following is offered as a description and scope of work of the project:

I. Haas House Renovations

The Haas House is an old residence within the St. Augustine Restora-
tion Area recently donated to the State and leased to the Board by the
T.I.I.T.F. One of the Board's important activities is the archaeolo-
gical explorations in St. Augustine and environs. These explorations
are conducted by students from University of Florida and Florida State
University who reside at the House while in St. Augustine. In order
to make this old and delapidated Haas property suitable and safe for
such use, it must be renovated. The renovations should include but
not be limited to the following:
a. Back porch and outside stair replaced
b. Replacing of rotten flooring
c. Replacement of siding
d. Replacement of rotten wood fascias and other gotten wood
e. Door and window weatherstripping
f. Insulation for wall and roof
g. Electrical system brought up to code

h. Roofing inspected and repaired or replaced
i. Termite proofing for entire structure
j. Compliance with Life Safety Code
k. Interior patching and painting
1. Renovation of kitchen and toilets
m. Other renovations permitted by budget

II. East Wing Renovation, Government House

The East Wing of this building was torn up fifteen years ago during
an archaeological search. The search was eventually discontinued,
but the East Wing was never restored to its original condition.
Reconstruction should include but not be limited to the following:

a. Fill dirt and concrete slab f. Interior decoration

b. Wall finishes g. Painting
c. Ceilings h. Carpeting
d. Electrical work i. Other
e. Air conditioning

While the limited appropriation for this project will permit us to
complete only a small portion of the construction work, it is our
intention to obtain full construction documents so that when and if
we obtain a supplementary appropriation to continue the project, we
will have the plans on hand.

In view of the minor nature of these two projects and the relatively small
sum of funding involved, it is suggested that we handle both projects as
one.

Following is a preliminary budget:
Renovations of East Wing, Government House- $ 22,000
IHaas House Renovation- 30,000
Total Appropriation $52,000
