ashington, D. C.

Dear ler. Bartzog:

Senator Holland has asked that I transmit to you the en-
closed resolution by the Board of County C6minssioners
of the St. Johns County, Florida, with respect to dils
position of the old Post Office building in St. Augutinue.

Since the history of this particular tract of land runs
back very nearly to the year 1600, having to do with the
history of St. Augustine in some way since that time, the
Senator feels very strongly that not only should the site
be retained for public benefit, but also that the exiting
building, with a minizm of conversion, could be used ad-
vantageousy as a museum.

We know that this matter has been presented to the Park
Service previously and that it did not generate any particular
interest. However, Senator Holland expressed the earnest hope
that you would review this entire matter sympathetically and
come up with som way in which the Park Service could request
assinment of the property when the GSA has it for disposal.

The Senator returned to his hoem in Bartow this past weekend,
and with the exception of a possible trip back here for the
fitting of a contact lens to his operated eye, he will remain
there until shortly after the first of the year.

With kind rear d, I am
Sincerely,

MlmfLLL WWSLETT
Administrative Assistant to
Senator Spessard L. Bolland
