Dear Mr. Newton:
In reference to your letter of September 20, there is one state-
ment which worries me a little bit. You say that the Post Office Department
has decided to make its present building available to the Restoration Com-
mission. This decision does not lie with the Post Office Department. We
have decided that the Post Office Department has a need for larger quarters,
and it is our intention to vacate the building when suitable quarters are avail-
able. As I mentioned during our conversation, we would prefer not to move
until new permanent quarters can be secured, but under the right circumstances,
it may be possible to use temporary quarters for some period of time.
In any case, when the Post Office Department does vacate the
federal building, the General Services Administration will have to decide
on the building's future.
I think you probably understood this before, but since you did not
make it clear in your letter, thought the matter would bear repeating.
