The Twister.

Has the twister been around to see you yet? If
he has not he will come before long; look out for him!
The twister is one claiming to be an insurance
man-of whom there are quite a number-who visits
you after you have insured in another company and
tries to dissatisfy you with your policy. He will tell
you everything to the discredit of your company that
he can invent; that your policy is bad, and that you
could have done better in his company. He will sym-
pathize with your misfortune, show you specially pre-
pared literature to prove his words, or tell you to write
this or that person (whom you can safely put down
as being in league with him) toconfitm his statement.
Why does he do this?
Is he interested in your welfare ?

Has he ever shown any interest in your welfare before?

Is he not trying to make something out of you ?

You will make no mistake if you show him the door.
Here is what the Commissioner of Illinois says
officially in his report about him:
The twister does not seek impaired or doubtful
lives, but strives for the best risks in his poaching;
he makes a point of discouraging the policy-holder
of a rival company, impairs his confidence in what
he has already, and by insinuations, inuendoes, and
even bare-faced attacks upon rival companies, weak-
ens and impairs the faith of the people in all life in-
surance. He is the anarchist in life insurance."

Tenth Annual Conference

for Education in

the South

Office of the President, 784 Broadway,
New York

March 18th, 1907.

According to an announcement already made by the Chair-
man of the Executive Committee, the Conference will meet at the
Carolina Hotel, Pinehurst, North Carolina, on the morning of
Tuesday, April 9th, at 10 o'clock, and will continue through the
following Wednesday and Thursday, closing on the night of
Thursday, April 11th.
At a recent meeting of the Executive Committee and other
officers of the Conference in Atlanta, it was decided to follow the
advice frequently given by many who are greatly interested in its
work, and for this year the meetings are to be held at a retired
place having sufficient accommodation for all who may desire to
attend, the purpose being to secure actual conference upon the
various methods employed for the promotion of public education
in the several States.

The place chosen is in the State of North Carolina where,
at the Winston-Salem Conference in 1901, these meetings first
began to attract the interest of all parts of the South. Pinehurst
is central and easy of access to those who have been present
on former occasions and for the many others who have expressed
a desire to attend.
The plan for the entertainment of all members of the Con-
erence under one roof, will facilitate personal acquaintance and
a free exchange of opinions on the many vital questions which
especially interest those engaged in educational effort, and it is
anticipated that the exercises in general will be more informal
than they have been in previous Conferences.

It is impossible, at this date, to present a complete program,
but among the features will be the following:
A statement of the history and meaning of the Conference
and the Southern Education Board.
A discussion upon "Agriculture and the Southern Farmer",
by Dr. S. A. Knapp, of Lake Charles, La., Mr. T. 0. Sandy, of
Farmville, Va., and Dr. L. H. Bailey, of Cornell University.

The Southeastern Passenger Association offers the following

One first-class fare plus twenty-five (25) cents for the round trip
(minimum fare 50 cents) from all points in the territory south of
the Ohio and Potomac and east of the Mississippi rivers, including

Tickets limited to continuous passage in each direction, will be sold
April 7, 8 and 9, 1907, with limit good to leave Pinehurst returning

to go from north of the Potomac are advised to write for fuller
particulars concerning railroad rates to the "Secretary of the South-
ern Education Board," 784 Broadway, New York.

Fuller information may be obtained at local railway stations
early in April.
The rate at the Carolina Hotel, at Pinehurst, where the Conference
is to meet, will be $3.50 per day. Special arrangements may be
made for room with bath at $4.50 per day.

All persons expecting to attend the Conference should com-
municate, as early as convenient, with

Mr. H. W. PRIEST, Manager,
"The Carolina"
Pinehurst, N. C.

The influence of the Conference for Education in the South has
broadened and deepened with increasing power during the nine
years of its life. The first three Convocations were held at Capon

Springs, W. Va., the last six at Winston-Salem, N. C., Athens, Ga.,
Richmond, Va., Birmingham, Ala., Columbia, S. C. and Lexington,

Ky. Its purpose is to spread the Gospel of Education for all the
people. Its aim is not professional but popular. All who
sympathize with its general aims are welcome to its sessions.

The topics presented and discussed have a common interest for
educators of every rank, trustees of educational corporations, public
educational officials and legislators, and intelligent patriotic citizens.
Each locality that has entertained the Conference has derived a
large benefit from its presence, many friends of education have found
encouragement and sympathy in attendance upon its sessions and
good fellowship has been created between people from widely
separated sections of the country.

CE OF THE
D MANAGING DIRECTOR

BOSTON, March 23, 1907.

W. S. Jennings,

Jacksonville, Fla.

r Sir:-

We have your letter of the 19th inst. at hand, stating
you did not receive Prospectus which we advised was enclosed
ur previous letter. Owing to the volume of business which we
compelled to handle since this offering was announced to the
Lie, an occasional error in mailing may have occurred, for
h we apologize.

We have recently received from the publishers the Sys-
D'agazine reprint of articles describing in detail our organiza-
a and systematic methods of its various departments. It would
rest you to read this through, and note how our phenomenal in-
ise has been handled and how provision has been made for future
ness.

Mary wishing to anticipate the April investment period
filed their applications for stock, and some have requested
rations for later payment, and we would suggest that you send
Lbscription for such number of shares as you may desire to buy '
we may be privileged to grant you your full allotment.

. ,

I would call your attention to the confidence placed in the S:'
)any and its stock offering by the sixty-five banks listed in the
peotus which have consented to accept subscriptions. If more
'enient, you could make deposit with the Atlantic National Bank
'acksonville through which certificate will be sent, or you may
ard direct to the Treasurer, E. J. Bliss, 109 Summer Street,
on, by certified check or bank draft.

Yours very truly,

REGAL SHOE COMPANY

trees blooming prior to Juhe, and of .course the June

bloom does not yield a marketable fruit,

*$r. Bell's grove at Broukaville is in like

condition; not a single tree in his grove that has

bloomed or has any prospect of blooming. The same is

reported to be true of Mr. Hal-ls grove, aand others at

Brooksville. The groves there were not injured in the

slightest degree by the cold. Similar reports come from

Mahatee, DeSoto, Lee and a portion of Polk and Orange

Counties. The only places that report favorable conditions

are a portion of DeSoto, the West side of Hillaborough

County, and a portion of the groves north of Leesburg.

Bryan -is much relieved and improved, and is

now in school, much to our. delight.

Mrs. Jennings send love to Mrs. Colket,

and joins in kindest regards to yourself and family.

Yours very truly,

Reasons for Insuring in the
American Life Insurance Co.
of Tampa, Florida.

1st. Because it is capitalized at $500,000,
every dollar of which is subject to call if
needed.
2nd. The Stock is divided among two
hundred and fifty of Florida's best business
and professional men, which spreads the in-
fluen'ce thus obtained over a large area, and
also prevents the consolidation of power in
the hands of a few men.
3rd. It is officered by men of known in-
tegrity, who occupy high positions in the
business world of the State, and who have,
to a man, made a success of their particular
line of business.
4th. It employed, at time of organization,
one of the most able and highly esteemed
Actuaries in the United States, with the re-
sult that its Premium Rates, Expense Load-
ings and Surrender Values are much more
scientific, more equitable and fair to the
assured than those of any 'other Company.
5th. Its Policy contracts are plain, simple
promises to pay, with no vague clauses or

fine print, and in point of liberality to Policy
Holders are unexcelled.
6th. The Company did not, and will not,
adopt the "One year preliminary term plan,"
or any other device designed to cover high
commissions to agents and other excessive
operating expenses, but, on the contrary,
puts up at once the full legal re-
serve on every policy issued.
A Company's Reserve is its Sheet Anchor,
and this country is full of the wrecks of con-
cerns that failed to recognize this fact, or,
while aware of it, tried to avoid for a time
the laying aside of proper reserves in order
to use the money thus rendered unnecessary
to compass a rapid growth.
7th. It is a new Company, and a new
Company has three very decided advantages
over an old one, advantages that are not off-
set by disadvantages: First, because of a
much smaller annual income to invest,
higher interest rates are obtained; second,
the age limit being 60 years, there will be
no deaths from old age for many years;
third, the greater part of the value of a med-
ical examination is supposed to be dissipated
in from five to seven years. So that in the
case of a new Company, where all risks have

been recently examined, the full benefit of
medical selection is enjoyed and the profits
from this source increased, while in the case
of an Old Company only a small percentage
of its lives are in the recently examined class.
8th. It is a Florida Institution, a State in
which higher rates of interest can be ob-
tained than in almost any other State in the
Union, and, as its Premium Rates and Re-
serves are based on the assumption that only
3 1-2 per cent may be earned, every dollar
of net interest earned in excess of the re-
quired 3 1-2 per cent may be used to add
strength to the Company and in
the payment of dividends.
A careful perusal of these reasons will,
we feel sure, convince the most skeptical
that we have good reasons to be proud of
the Company and to ask for a share of your
patronage.
