The Conditions of Success.
The success of our work depends upon
three conditions:
I. The demand for it.
II. The fundamental principles which
underlie it.
III. The character of the parties into
whose hands it is committed.
DEMAND.
a. There are destitute and homeless
children everywhere, and always will be:
"Ye have the poor always with you."
Matt. 26:11.
b. There are enough childless families
in the State of Florida to supply a home
for every destitute and neglected child in
the State.
c. The Children's Home Society is the
only organization in the State of Florida
that receives all classes and conditions of
needy white children from earliest infancy
up to fourteen years of age.

PRINCIPLES.
a. Saves neglected children from pau-
perism, crime and debased citizenship.
b. Moral environment reforms inherit-
ed depravity.
c. Home influences sink deeply into
the mind and heart of the child, and are
most potent in shaping its character and
forming its life.
d. Individuality and strong characters,
the outcome of the freedom of family
home-life.
e. The three-fold blessing, the child,
the foster parents and society.
f. The most economic and -;.ylig
charity in the care of homeless children.
4-

Special Features of the Work
of the Children's Home
Society.
Seeks out dependent, abused children,
orphans, half-orphans, worse than orphans
and becomes their protector.
Searches for homes in worthy families,
placing children with the least possible
delay.
Children are kept under supervision and
observation by the Society until they reach
maturity.
Comforting assurance to parents living
in fear of leaving their children penniless
and homeless.
Persons desiring to adopt children can
safely do so without fear of future inter-
ference.,
The organization of Local Advisory
Boards, throughout the State, who repre-
sent the Children's Home Society in their
localities.
The protection of Society by assuring
proper home training and education for
unfortunate little ones.

The Children's Home Society has placed
many children in good homes. The de-
mand is for greater than we can supply.
The number of applicants waiting for
children number nearly one hundred.
The business methods and careful manage-
ment have enabled this Society to do an
amount and quality of work at a rate of
expense per capital that astonishes those
interested in this philantrophy. Every
dollar has done full duty and is carefully
accounted for on our books,

News from Children
"I was very busy before, but now busy
does not express it. Every minute of my
time is taken up since I have the children
to care for. I wish I could tell you every-
thing they have done and said, and how
dear they are to us, and how perfectly
natural it seems all around to have them
say, 'papa and mamma.' They are doing
nicely at school and Sunday School. We
gladly take the children to our hearts and
homes, and care for them and watch over
them and train them just like they were
our very own from the beginning. We
willingly and cheerfully make almost any
sacrifice for them, and do all we can to im-
prove and advance them, give them a good
high school education and the best and
most careful moral training, a good home,
and the :.,ti ,.i.iA.tt-_ conpanionship of
fond parents; then, when years have pass-
ed and the time comes to dispose of our
property, if they have proven faithful to
us, they would naturally get what we
have, there would be no one else to be
preferred. I wish you could get a peep
at the children in my husband's lap, one
on each knee, riding ponies. They seem
ipt-ri. -, happy and he is so kind and
gentle with them, it would be hard for
them to tell which one of us they love best.'

"I will write you a short letter as I
promised. We are well satisfied with our
little girl, and she seems to be' well satis-
fied too. I did not know she had an acci-
dent, one leg is some shorter. than the other
but I think it will get all right. It may
-always be so, but that will not make any
difference, as I well know we will be proud
of her. She is getting acquainted with
some of the little girls here and is coining
along 0. K."

"I got my papers all right, and my prec-
ious boy is my very own now, and his
name is his own too, for always. I have
moved to a large old house surrounded
with roses, that arc all in bloom. My
husband bought a nice cow, so that my
boy has all the fresh milk he wants, and
we have a pony to drive. You ought to
hear my little son say, "Be careful,
Mamma, don't make Jennie go too fast."
I suppose you have not found my baby
girl yet." -

"It is too soon to speak very positively,
but my present impression is that if the
girl could be sold for money, it would take
more than there is in the State of Florida
to tempt us to give her up. I will report
to you from time to time and will be pleas-
ed to consider any suggestions you may
offer."

JomN B. STETSON UNIVERSITY
DE LAND, FLA.
PRESID1lNT'S OFFIO E

March 2, 1906.

Mr. Vm. S. Jennings,

Jacksonville, Fla.

Dear Sir:

At the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees, Feb. 15

last, the Board unanimously adopted the suggestion made by the

joint Comittee of the Board and the Florida Baptist State Convention

more than a year ago, that thetenure of office of a Trustee of the

Univ'roity be made a definite tenure of six years, four Trustees

to go out each year and four new ones to be elected.

At the close of the regular order of business the enclosed

statement, with reference to $100,000 was made to the Board of

Trustees, Mr. Stetson presiding. All present, except one, expressed

their willingness to accept it. It was decided to adjourn the meet-

ing until March 15th so as to communicate the matter to those who

were not personally present. The undersigned were a-.nointed a

Committee to send it to all the Trustees, to express the desire of

all, except one, who were present, to accept it, and to ask each

to signify his will in the matter. Mr. Stetson died on Sunday

following the meeting. The Board not having accepted it, the consent

of Mr. Stetson thus falls to the ground. It is believed his widow

will carry out his wishes, if the Board also will carry out his

wishes. What is your will?

Sincerely yours,
SILAS B. WRIGHT.

VI Tall&hassee, Fla. March 3, 1906.

Hon. W. S. Jennings,
Jacksonville, Fla.
Dear Governor:
I sent you a letter yesterday that I received from Judge
Griggs relative to some fine timber that I hear can be secured. I have
this day written the party mentioned in his letter and will send you
his reply just time it reaches me. What do you think of taking this
matter up providing the timber suits?

I am satisfied we can make most any kind of deal with
them as to terms, etc. I am told that the timber is very fine but of
course, this will have to be investigated if you approve of the deal*

I will send you the note that I hold on M. A. Brown, the
Sheriff, in a few days, and I want you to ask Mr. Billingsley to collect
it for me.

With kindest regards to all, I am,

Yours as ever,

Mr. W. S. Jennings, Vice-Pres.,

Dear Sir:-
The Interstate Club is an organization chartered under the

laws of the State of Alabama. It has acquired large tracts of land con-

tiguous to the Tennessee River,in the State of Alabama, and has for its

objects the owning and maintaining of ftiheries, game preserves, golf

links, polo grounds, etc.,thereby affording recreation for its membership.

Its primary object, however,is to bring together from time to

time the statesmen, philosophers, thinkers and business men of the nation,

and this without regard to creed or political affiliations. The projec-

tors of this enterprise feel sure that if the men,who represent the

best sentiment and thought of this onuntry, will aid in the up-building

and maintaining of this enterprise the greatest good must result to the

entire nation;we,therefore, ask that you become a member of the Inter-

state Club. The annual dues are $100.00. upon receipt of your check

for this amount we will send you membership certificate holding good until

January 1908;after that time the dues will be $100.00 per annum. We

expect to open the Club House for the entertainment of the guests during

the coming fall, on which occasion we will endeavor to have the President

Mr. Cleveland and others to a address the membership.
Yours truly

Mrs. W. S. Jennings,
Tallahassee, Fla.

Dear S.ip Madam:

If you owned the two gold and one silver
bars shown in the enclosed photo, you would be
more than $2,500 richer than you are now.

If you could become interested in a legiti-
mate enterprise, owned and controlled by men of
unquestioned financial integrity and responsi-
bility, would you consider the matter?

If it could be proven to you that these men
have invested $130,000 of their own money, and
that this investment is solid, substantial,
gold-bearing, with almost fabulous possibilities,
would you consider it?

With the elements of chance entirely over-
come; with certainty staring you in the face,
would it not positively be to your financial
interest to know exactly what I am talking about?

I am going to show you where the combined
wealth of our officers alone exceeds one million
dollars. Then, if you are satisfied, just fill
out the enclosed postal and let me send you some
GOLD-BEARING information at my expense.

You will notice the postal is directed to
my Denver Office.

Sincerely yours,

oe gaeW '
