Mrs. Towers called. To state it briefly, she'd
like to have some information to present to the
presidents of UDC and DAR before she gets you
to talk to them at lunch some1 day.

The information she'd like to have is cost of
the two houses behind the Fatio house. Cost of
demolition. Cost of reconstructing the houses
that once stood there (I don't know what period)
and she'd like to have this information by 3:00
PM if possible. She'll be at the Hatel Ponce de
Leon playing bridge until that time. If you
can't get this information for her today, would
you please mail it to her.

Good luck:

MEMO-RANDUM

FROM THE DESK OF

Berniece Erwin

Date February 3. 1965

To Rita O'Brien

Yesterday I spoke on the telephone with Mrs.
Daughtry Towers in Jacksonville, and had a very
pleasant conversation.

Mrs. Towers did not get the toreador's cape while
in Spain, only the hat which she said would be
available if we wished it. She seemed quite interested
in the planned "Quadricentennial Luncheon and Hispanic
Costume Festival," but doubted that she could attend
since March 27 is her wedding anniversary and she and
Mr. Towers usually come down to St. Augustine for
dinner at the Ponce De Leon Hotel. She wished us
every success and was most cordial.

She asked that I give you the following message with
the request that you transmit it to Mr. Newton:
To ask Mr. Newton if he will look up and see if the
house behind the Towers' property here has ever been
sold. She is trying to get the President of the
D.A.R. in the State of Florida to buy the property
and rebuild it. She would like to know what the cost
of the property might be, what it might cost to tear
down the house now there, and approximately what it
might cost to build a restored type of house there.
She indicated she also has in mind asking the D.A.R.
President referred to above, along with the U.D.C.
President in the State of Florida, to meet with
Mr. Newton and herself some time sonn at the River Club
for the purpose of Mr. Newton discussing this property,
with the thought the both pieces be bought by the two
groups and restored in St. Augustine.
Mrs. Towers plans on being at the Ponce De Leon Hotel
Thursday this week for luncheon and a party afterward,
so she was hopeful the above requested information might
be taken to the hotel for her while she is there.
She asked to be remembered most fondly to all of you,
her friends in St. Augustine.
Thank you for passing this on to Mr. Newton for his
consideration.
