General
Original and subsequent owners
the Base was probably built by Oaspar
Garcia between 1791 and 1798 (of.
ohain of title below). In 1836 the
building was bought by Gol. Thoas
Henry DmOitt& a wealthy sugar pl nter
from Barbadees and New aven ConeeotUat
who was forced to abandon his 3000 sere
plantation near New Sarna due to the
Seminole wars. Col. Dtumtt and his
family were the most prominent oeoopants
of the house and it has been so entitled.
General William Joseph NBrdee, a Damitt
brother-in-law occupied the hoose during
the War between the States. After the
war the house had a succession of owners
and served first as a private boarding
house and later as an hnm under various
name. The present owners obtained the
property in 195h.
