With reference to our conversation on the 28th of this month concerning the medi-
cal collection presently under your care and those parts of it we have already accepted
for use in St. Augustine, I would like to confirm our Foundation's offer to accept perma-
nent responsibility for these historical materials.

As stated, we were deeply involved in developing and establishing the Hospital
Military in St. Augustine which currently displays many articles from the collection. On
behalf of the Foundation, I had obtained the items from your facility last spring and sub-
sequently made them available to the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board for use
in the hospital museum. Currently, the HSAPB is undergoing significant re-organization
under state guidance and is unable at this time to make decisions concerning the hospi-
tal or the collection.

Established contact with ine Frorida Medicai Association and the Nationai Associa-
tion of Medical Museums, has given us a wide range of possibilities for properly employ-

ing the many items in the collection. Our Foundation is committed to the continued
operation and ultimate completion of the Hospital Militar which will include a library, mo-
bile exhibits and educational outreach programs. We have formally offered our assis-
tance to the state to ensure the success of this project.

We have access to climate-controlled and entirely secure facilities for temporary
storage of the collection at Camp Blanding and can assure you we will take very good
care of the materials. We will make a dedicated effort to ensure items from the collec-
tion are ultimately assigned to the correct and proper use for the general enhancement
of the public's appreciation for, and knowledge of, the important medical history of our
state.
