RE: Restoration Joaneda House, St. Augustine, Florida
Dear Mr. Griffin:
I am writing to confirm my understanding of Mrs. Elizabeth Towers' require-
ments for the referenced project resulting from my conference with her Thurs-
day, June 5, and our meeting in your office yesterday.
1. I explained to Mrs. Towers that it is not in our best interest to forward
the plans and specifications to the Department of the Interior until all changes
have been incorporated in the drawings since we would have to resubmit at a
later date if the present plans were approved. I believe Mrs. Towers is agree-
able to delaying submission until changes are completed.
2. Metal burglar bars will be installed in the Treasury Street windows by
the Board but they will not be shown on the drawings submitted for approval.
Rather than providing opaque glass, either wooden venetian blinds or folding
louvered shutters on the interior will be furnished.
3. We will revise the downstairs plan by swapping the kitchen and bathroom
locations and creating a sleeping alcove for Mrs. Towers in the south end of
the East Room. The south door of this room will be changed to a window de-
signed in such a way that the opening can be converted to a door opening in
the future.
4. The spiral stair will be relocated in the East Room and will be enclosed by
partitions and doors to separate it from the sleeping alcove.
5. In the relocated bath, Mrs. Towers was agreeable to constructing a custom-
designed tile tub with a flexible sprayhead shower in order to minimize con-
flicts with the existing window and space requirements in the room.
6. All windows will have shutters (except the dormers).
7. Rather than utilize the concrete block in the existing foundations for
a masonry wall, we will extend the wooden fence as designed along the east pro-
perty line to the existing wall at the rear of the property.
' 8. The parking area will be modified to accommodate two automobiles. I wish
to suggest that the paving be changed from tabby concrete to compacted oyster
shell in order that future changes can be made more easily in this area.

I enjoyed presenting the results of my conference with Mrs. Towers to you,
.John Bailey and Bob Steinbach. It is my understanding that the above items
were acceptable to those present at yesterday's meeting. However, before
proceeding with the revisions, I would appreciate receiving written authori-
zation fran you to proceed.
Best regards,
