Re: Restoration Joaneda House Field Inspection, November 6, 1975
Dear Bob:
The following notes are forwarded for your information and file:
1. Present: Robert Steinbach and Herschel Shepard.
2. Work in progress:
a. Exterior plumbing in progress. Sane cast iron waste has been installed,
all trenching accomplished by hand.
b. Portions of angle lintels at window and door heads are in place.
c. Repair and extension of joists and rafters is in progress.
3. The tub drain at the first floor shall be Gerber 41-818 "All Tub" trip lever
and drain. An extension of the drain is required to allow adequate concrete
cover (11" minimum) above waste.
4. The rough slab at the downstairs tub shall be waterproofed with glass mat
and polyester resin.
5. Change the thickness of the north partition at the circular stair to the
standard 31 inches. Provide a 3" by approximately 16" high concrete curb
at the east and south sides of the tub. In each curb provide thhee No. 3's
horizontally plus 6 x 6 10/10 welded wire mesh reinforcing. The water-
proofing noted above shall extend to the top of the curbs and an equivalent
height on the coquina block walls on the other two sides. A base coat of
Portland cement plaster is recommended on the coquina prior to the applica-
tion of the waterproofing. Intersection of vertical and horizontal tub
surfaces should be provided with a radius to prevent a hard 90 degree change
of direction in fiberglass materials.
6. At the fireplace, provide a new angle lintel spanning from outside face to
outside face of chimney. This supersedes reuse of the flat bar noted in a
previous report. Cut back the face of the flanking bearing walls and
provide a 2" pipe column support at each end of the angle lintel. Each
.pipe column should be finished with a base plate 3/8" thick and 6 inches
.square. The design of the base plate and condition at the floor depends
upon final hearth design and further investigation of this area.

7. The plumbing subcontractor has enlarged all exterior waste lines to 3 inches
due to the low fall available to the sewer. The Architect concurs. This
change was made at no cost to the Owner.
8. The Architect will redesign the porch beam to allow greater clearance below.
Best regards,
Herschel E. Shepard
