RE: Revisions to Joaneda House Kitchen
Dear John:
After reviewing my letter of yesterday regarding our conference with Mrs. Towers
on 10 December, I realized that certain additional matters were discussed, and
I failed to include than in my notes taken during our talk. These were:
1. Although we did not discuss the problem of the circular stair in depth,
it will not be feasible to construct a wooden spiral stair in the manner shown
in the photographs forwarded by Mrs. Towers. Our budget has made it necessary
for us to utilize a relatively inexpensive but well-made spiral steel stair of
unit construction. However, it will be possible to provide wooden treads. I
suggest we meet with Mrs. Towers after the basic metal framework is installed
and discuss further modifications at that time.
2. I believe all parties understand that the dormers are too narrow to allow
installation of bookshelves at the jambs. However, it will be possible to pro-
vide a drawer beneath the dormers.
3. Since we are working in an existing building, it will not be possible to
install a prefabricated fiberglas tub-shower on either floor. The tub-shower
on the first floor must be constructed by hand to meet field conditions. Space
is extremely constricted at the second floor bathroom, and it will be difficult
enough to install standard fixtures. However, I believe both bathrooms will be
satisfactory as designed.
Best regards,
Herschel E. Sheard.
