RE: Joaneda House Restoration
Dear Bob:
This is:to confirm our telephone conversation this date regarding roofing
materials for the Joaneda House.
As we discussed, Harvey confirmed with an official of the St. Augustine
Building Department that Class "B" roofing meets local code requirements
in the Fire District north of Cathedral Street. Apparently the Joaneda
House and the Historic District are within this area. Furthermore, the
current edition of the Southern Standard Building Code specifically allows
Class "B" roofing in fire districts.
Finally, I have discussed relative roofing costs with
Stephens Roofing Company, and he states that asbestos
cost as much as the Koppers Class "B", based upon his
Charles Stephens, of
shingle roofing will
own experience.
Therefore, it is my opinion that we should proceed with the installation
of the Koppers Class "B" roof.
Best regards,
Herschel E. Sheard.
P. S. Enclosed is some information regarding asbestos shingles and codes.
