Mrs. C. D. Towers, Sr.

Dear Mrs. Towers:
It was good to talk to you this morning, and I want you to know
that our love and best wishes go to you along with the belief
that you are going to be actively and enthusiastically with us
for a long, long time.
I imagine that by now you have received a copy of the letter
that Herschel Shepard wrote to me concerning both his discussions
with you and his conference with us here in St. Augustine. As
Herschel says, it will be best to actually incorporate the changes
in the drawings before we submit them to the Department of the
Interior, since it will make matters easier later.
Before giving Herschel the written authorization to proceed with
the revision of the drawings, which he requests in his final para-
graph, I would like to hear from you confirming that we are all
on the same wave length on the changes to be incorporated.
As to the matter of the allowable-versus unallowable costs from the
point of view of the federal grant, I think it is clear to all of
us that any unallowable costs in the adaptation of the structure
for purposes of modern living are the responsibility of the Board.
There really should be no problem here.
Please let me hear from you soon so we can authorize Herschel to
finish up the revisions and shoot the drawings and specifications
forward for approval.
Love and best wishes,
John W. Griffin,.Director
Historic St. Augustine
Preservation Board
