Re: Mrs. C. D. Towers--proposed deed of
Montgomery sisters' property in St.
Augustine to the State of Florida
Dear Mr. Cowartz
Please forgive my tardiness in replying to your
telephone call of June 13 and your letter the following
day regarding the above matter; I had been planning to
advise you of our efforts when I received your letter of
July 12.
Firstly, the Department of State, and its arm the
St. Augustine Historic Preservation Board, appreciate
Mrs. Towers' generous proposal, and we are anxious to
finalize her intent.
As the Department's and the Board's legal representa-
tive, I will hive the pleasure of working with you and
coordinating matters for the prospective grantee.
In this regard, there are several unanswered questions
which members of our staff in the Division of Archives,
History, and Records Management are assisting me concerning
the federal grant and oonditidns precedent to the release
of those monies for restoration qf the property. Mr. Randy
Nimnicht and Bill Thurston of the Buredu of Historic
Sites and Property within that Division are working with
me. Too, I will be coordinating'the Board's position
with Mr. John Griffin, its director, regarding Mrs. Towers'
requirements for restoration.
