Dear Put:
As I mentioned in our telephone conversation this afternoon, the
Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board needs to secure two
independent appraisals of the Montgomery House on Treasury Street.
This, as you know, is one of the roughly thirty original structures
still standing in St. Augustine, and is within the historic dis-
trict as defined on the National Register.
The value of this property, when donated to the Historic St.
Augustine Preservation Board, can be used as matching funds to
secure federal historic preservation money for the restoration of
the house, and at the moment this seems to be both a viable prospect
and the only way in the near future in which this house can be res-
tored as part of the historic heritage of the community.
If you and another person could independently appraise this property
at its present market value, taking into consideration its historic
nature, this would be the last information we need to put together
a package to put us in line for consideration of matching federal
funding. Your efforts in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
John W. Griffin, Director
Historic St. Augustine
Preservation Board

P. S. This property was sold in late 1970 for $30,000.
