My dear Mrs.Lawson;
The Montgomery Sisters wrote and asked me to help them find out about
their house the "San 0arlos if it was possible that the priest Florencia was born there,
its age etc. I have sent them a tracing of the block from the map of 1788 showing that
there was no house there in 1788 and the enclosed data, a copy for the Historical Society
files. I made three copies and have sent one to the Restoration Office,have one for my
own files. ,the enclosed is the third. One of the printed pm pkphlets in Spanish that I
secured from Garcia Rico & Oo.of Madrid is one by a Florencia ,possibly the priest born
in St.Augustine.It is in the Spanish bookoase.I loaned my slips and book notes to the
Restoration Office so have nothing to refer to.There were a number of these old printed
church papers that I bought.

Several years ago I came across in the library here of a remarkable genealogy for the
Dunham family ,and Mrs.Hatch asked me to make a copy of it for her. I did not come North
until this summer and have made several typed copies, I am sending one to Judge Dunham
and when he has made all the copies he wants have bhaz asked him to put this original
copy in the Historical Society Library. I also gave him a list of the marriage licenses
that we do not have, as he was interested in my getting the other copies.We should have
all of them to go along with the OathedrAl .records,if there is enough money to buy them.
I suggested that the order should come through you.

I have received my copies of "Brookgreen Wacoamaw" and as soon as I can get to the
Post Office will mail one to the Historical Society Library.

In a previous letter to Mr.Ma-.ucy,I sent him some ads cut from book catalogues,for the
bibliography they are making also hoping they might buy some of them. A translation of
Monardes was one of them ,only a few dollars.I enclose now an ad from the last New York
Sunday Times.As Memdlesz had such close connections with Yucatan,I think these books
might be useful to us.

Nk.Hasell Gibbes was one of my ancestors,is not connected with the St.Augustine Gibbs
family. Along with the report of my ancestor Lieut.John Wilson on the Bahama Islands ,
his leaving St.Augustine to go there I added a short biography ,some family history.My
Gibbes family lived in South Carolina,and in Garden's anecdotes and Johnston's you will
fins mention of nh.Hasell Gibbes as a prisoner in St.Augustine. Of the Gibbs family
the following is of interest in the old Escrituras in the Judge's Office St.Aug. page
445 is a Pow.Gralof Zephaniah Kingsley a new resident June 1,1804 to Dn.Bernardino
Sanchezmentions Joseph Gibbs my brotherkinaelaw of New York. George Gibbs was the
nephew of Kingsley ,in one of the pamphlets that of Sibley that I sold the Society,
as I remember Gibbs is a witness ,wasemployed by Sibley at the sawhmills.The Court
notes and many records mention him. He was a vestryman of Trinity Parish.

Do not bother now about my reports in the bread box,if you. will begin at the beginning
you will see how gradually I found things,how thrilling it was,and all my Sourt File
finds came sine.*11.1 want now to go over those papers and remove Mrs.Underwoods'
corrections.I felt it was useless to do it beforehand no use to do work that might be
lost or destroyed.

I am sorry to hear that Prof.Siebert is dead,I wonder when it happened, I was afraid
of it he was so very ill several times. 'I have not read Whitaker. I have seen a Roerick
Fleming listed lately ,but it was too expensive to fight for.2f I come across it I will
let you know.

I do not expect to return until sometime in October.Coulter has published a new book
I am anxious to read it.He wrote endorse the book Lannih ider







Mr.Goiger quotes from Lanning and accepts many mistakes which i,3 a pity,for -M.Geiger
writes in a much more careful way.I have not read his last book. I was sorry not to
meet him last winter and show him what we really had of great value.

Prof.0oulter had a grant from some foundation to study the old buildings in Georgia
and I do not know what he finally decided about them ,or if he differed with Floyd.
The Floyde have not written to me in two years ,or returned me the papers I loaned
to them. I found them very intelligent and we agreed about the sugar mills being mills
and not old Spanish missions. Prof.Ooulter's book is $6050 or 3*50 .1 am glad you
sent Mr.Floyd a Restoration paper,I wanted to do it but felt I could not until he
thanked me for the data I sent him on the map he gave me.

I expect my new tenant next Saturday and have been trying to clear up this histor-
ical work ,to pay all my attention to real estate for a while.

I am always glad to hear from you when you have time to write.I realize what
there is for you to do,the work is endless,but most interesting.
