- Felix Lafortune was born in Pontsonde, Haiti in 1933. As a farmer and oungan in St. Marc, Lafortune's temple paintings were recognized by Pierre Monosiet of the Musee d'Art Haitien, who provided the artist materials to continuing honing his craft. Lafortune's content centers on themes associated with Vodou and Haitian peasant life.
