Abstract: |
Original identification: 15 (Joseph Ewan) Phyllanthus (evidently?) platylepis Small
16 (Joseph Ewan) Sabatia calycina (Lam.) Heller
17 (Joseph Ewan) Campanula robinsiae Small Re-determination by Kent Perkins (KP) or J. Richard Abbott (JRA): it looks like the 3 specimens were remounted in different places on the sheet (than where they originally were); there are original ink numbers and different penciled in numbers, leading to confusion as to which plant goes with which number; numbers here follow the annotation labels (although someone later rewrote those numbers as well), with 15 in the lower left, 16 in the upper right, and 17 in the lower right
15 is Phyllanthus caroliniensis Walter ssp. caroliniensis (Euphorbiaceae); Ewan's P. platylepis is quite similar looking, but it is only known in Florida from 3 counties in the eastern panhandle and western north peninsula, not east Florida as on the label. stipules and venation features, although not traditionally cited as diagnostic, do show this material to more closely match P. caroliniensis than P. platylepis
16 is ! Sabatia calycina (Gentianaceae)
17 is Lindernia grandiflora Nutt. (traditional Scrophulariaceae; now treated as Veronicaceae or Plantaginaceae s.l.); Ewan's Campanula name is way off - for starters, this plant has opposite leaves (Campanula is alternate) and the strongly zygomorphic flower here is nothing like the rotate flower of Campanula; additionally, C. robinsiae is only known from Hernando county (on the west coast of central Florida) |
