Abstract: |
Original identification: 6 - Stylandra Nutt.
7 (Joseph Ewan) Leucothoe axillaris (Lam.) D. Don Redetermination: by J. Richard Abbott (JRA) or Kent Perkins (KP) 6 - missing, the original id. is on the specimen at the upper right. Stylandra is an illegitimate name for a species of milkweed (Asclepias pedicellatus) that Nuttall attempted to recognize as a genus. the silhouette of where the specimen once was is consistent with such a species, but there is absolutely no way to be certain in the absence of the specimen. all we can say is that, maybe, it was a milkweed.
7 - The plant is Agarista populifolia (Lam.) Judd (Ericaceae). This is interesting because it has a rather limited range-- http://www.plantatlas.usf.edu/maps.asp?plantID=3290 KP JRA - i concur. |
