STATE or ARKANSAS
OFFICE OF 1": GOVERNOR

LITTLE ROCK

ORVAL E. Ausus
GOV! DNOQ

September 8, 19 60

Governor -Nominate Farris Bryant
c/o State Capitol
Tallahassee. Florida

Dear Mr B ryant:

Mrs. Faubus and l. and the members of my staff, would like to extend to
you a most cordial invitation to attend the Southern Governors' Conference.
to be held in Hot Springs, Arkansas. September 25-28th, as the Governor-
Nominate of your state.

If it is possible for you to attend. I think you might find that you would enjoy
this conference perhaps even more than any others you will attend as Gov
ernor of your state, not only because it may be the first such experience
(or you. but also because you will have perhaps a better opportunity to
relax and enjoy the occasion before you shoulder the heavy responsibilities
and burdens of your office.

We have already completed, or have in the making, a very fine program,
which I kn0w you and the members of your family will enjOy very much.
This year we have left all the afternoous free from any ofcial or semi-
ofticial part of the program. Mrs. Faubus and I have gained the impression
from attendance at a number of conferences that you and your party would

like to have more time free from any planned program.

In Hot Springs you will be free to golf, fish. boat, water ski. hunt. take the
thermal baths. hike or drive through the oldest national park in the United
States or the beautiful Ouachita Mountains which surround the area, go
shopping alang bath house row or in the other sections of the national park
city. or just relax with your family or friends.

With such an arrangement, we think you will enjoy more the program which
has been planned, and will have a better opportunity to have a more enjoyable
time while in attendance at the conference.

O'FICI 0' Y! GOVERNOR

All of us are looking forward with anticipation and pleasure to having you
with us at the Southern Governore Conference of 1960. We will be very
disappointed if anything happens to prevent yen: attendance.

Please call or write to my office it there is anything that we can do, or any
