Dear Mr. Colman:
The Florida Senate's Committee on Health, Welfare and
Institutions is now reviewing the Medicaid-Title XIX bill
which the Florida Legislature may or may not adopt. We are
currently compiling comprehensive data which would enable us
to make a recommendation on what kind of medicaid program, if
any, we should recommend to the full Legislature.
I note in an Associated Press news story of December 18,
that your Advisory Commission has comprehensive facts on
medicaid, particularly as to the escalating costs of this
program for states which have already adopted it. I also note
from the news story that members of your Commission are extremely
disturbed at the skyrocketing costs. Our Conndttee meets next
on January 15. 1969, at which time we will undertake a comprehen-
sive review of such costs data. Could you forward to me any
studies which you or your Commission staff have performed on the
various facets of medicaid and particularly the costs of it to
the various states? I would appreciate it if you could mail this
immediately so that I and my Committee staff can review it prior
to the January 15 Committee meeting. I realize this is short
notice and an imposition, but, if you can assist us, it will be
most appreciated.
