SUble¢t= ACIR nearing. February 1 and ACIR Meeting, February 23
Chairman Bryant has approved the following arrangements for
the forthcoming hearing and Commission meeting in Chicago.
The one-day hearing will be held Thursday, February l (9230 A.H.
to 5:00 P.H.) in Courtroom 02119, United States Court house and Federal
Office Building, 219 South Dearborn Street, Chicago.
The one and one half-day ggggission meeting will be held Friday
morning and afternoon February 2. and Saturday morning, February 3. at
the Sheraton-Chicago Hotel. The Commission meeting will begin at 9:00 A.H.
Friday in the Tropical Room (5th Floor Tower Section) and with a noon
recess, will continue until 5:00 P.M. A luncheon for Advisory Commission
members and observers is planned for 12:30 P.H. Friday. On Saturday the
Commission meeting will reconvene at 9:00 A.H.; the meeting is expected
to adjourn by noon.
The one-day hearing Thursday, February 1, will be a "first" for
the Coondssion. Chairman Bryant will preside and the following Commission
members have agreed to assist: Mayor Naftalin, Mayor Naltester, Senator
DeStefano and Mrs. Spellmen. Governor Bryant would welcome participation of
any other Couuission members who might be able to be in Chicago on February
l.
Invited to testify at the hearing will be a governor. a State
legislator, a county official. a central-city mayor. a suburban mayor, a
regional planning official. an academician and a business man experienced
in the problems of new community development.
The general subject matter focus at the hearing will be rural-
urban balance and new community develhpment but persons testifying will be
invited to discuss any other intergovernmental problems which they may have
on their minds, particularly problems that relate to interstate metropolitan
areas which cross state boundaries as well as county lines.

At the Commission meeting Friday and Saturday the bulk of the
time will he devoted to a detailed review of the study of "Urbanization
and New Community Development." Other important matters scheduled for
consideration include discussion of the Commission's position on use
of Federal grant funds by State legisletive committees, end the selec-
tion of new ACIR study topics. An agenda for the meeting will be found
in the Docket looks that will be nailed to members two weeks in advance
of the meet ing.
A block of sleeping rooms has been set aside at the Sheraton-
Chicago Hotel. In e few days we shell send you a reservation card that
may be returned directly to the hotel; we will he kppy to assist you
in asking your room reservations if you wish. Transportation requests
will also he in the nail to you soon; each nenber_ahould then procure
his own transportation to end from Chicago.
