UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
Memorandum
To um. C. Colman DATE: July 31, 1967

S'WTi Conference on Legislative Leadership
Enclosed are materials related to the proposed National Conference
on Legislative Leadership.
Item l Is a preliminary program with suggestions as to speakers and other
program participants.
Item 2 Is a draft letter of invitation from Governor Bryant to prospective
participants. 1 suggest that individual letters be robotyped.
Item 3 Is a draft press release intended for National and regional news
media. I intend to draft a different news release intended for
news media whose coverage is limited principally to single States.
This release would feature the names of the invitees from each
State. The release date of the news releases should be geared to
the mailing of the letter of invitation.
Item 4 Is a rundown on legislative leaders in "one party" States.
Item 5 Is a partially updated CSG roster of legislative leaders. I have
highlighted and indicated with an "x" those who meet the "formula."
Question marks indicate others when I think should be considered
for invitation. There are 270 "x's" and 32 question marks. In
this connection Brevard Crihfield and herb Uiltsee would like for
the members of the Federal-State relations cannittee of the National
legislative Conference to be invited. I understand that most--but
not all--of the committee members are legislative leaders.
I suggest that we charge a registration fee sufficient to cover
the two luncheons and incidental conference expenses.
A reception for members of Congress (to be invited by the conter-
ence participants) is desirable, I believe, but vauld be too costly
to be covered by the registration fee. My guess, however, is that
the three State legislative members of the ACIR could find some
7??? way of handling the expense if they thought well of the idea.
