Honorable Farris Bryant

Director of the Office of Emergency
Planning

Washington, D. C. 20504

Dear Farris:

We were not able to get Betty Purness for the Miami conference,
but were told that she could probably come in September or October.
A copy of Bob Bishop's letter to her office is enclosed.

Our program is attracting considerable interest in the Legislature
and present indications are that the Legislature will pass some
laws which are needed. I feel new that they will give statutory
status to the office of Consumer Services in our Department.

Meanwhile, it will give the office more stature and public accep-
tancc if we can obtain the appointment of Bob Bishop to the
President's Advisory Council on Consumer Interest.

You are, of course, familiar with Bob's background, but the

enclosed reprint from Hho'a who in the South and Southwest might

be useful in presenting his name to the President for this appoint-
ment. As you know, he is a life long Democrat who has been generOus
with his support of the party including membership in the President's
Club in l96.

Your good assistance in this matter is sincerely appreciated.
with warm personal regards, I am

Sincerely,

Doyle Conn
