WHY RELOCATE 1-75?

It will provide a limited access highway system to Tampa and Miami

from the 1-75 gateway at the Georgia line. It will ultimately provide

the most direct Miami-Atlanta facility.
After 1976. the benefit-cost ratios will favor the relocated alignment.

The relocated alignment involves a total additional capital cost of
$2. 800. 000. The benets to turnpike-bound motorists will average

$2. 000. 000 per year through 1975.

It will enhance national security by making the Orlando-Canaveral

deiense complex more accessible to the Atlanta and midwest areas.

Without the relocation at 1-75. the Turnpike will terminate at Orlando

and the future possibility of constructing the line is remote.

The additional mileage will complement the President's program to
spur the economy by adding 20 millions in construction cost to the

Orlando extension. - '

The relocation of 1-75 would permit the completion. by 1964. of a

limited access expressway from Macon. Georgia; 582 miles to Miami

and 379 miles to Tampa.

1f the Bureau objects to the additional mileage for 1-75 created
by the relocation. on: reply would be that the total final mileage ie by no
means xed and will necessarily be adjusted all final locations are deter-
mined. In the nal analyeie we might very easily reduce the overall mileage
by ae much or mere than we are asking in additional mileage for the 1-75

relocation.

If the Bu.reau objects to the additional mileage for I-75 created by the relocation our reply would be that the total final miloage is by no means fixed and will necessarily be adjusted as final locations are determined. Inthe final analysis we might veryeasily reduce the overall mileage by as much ar mere than we are asking in additional mileage for the I-75
