Honorable Farrs Bryant
Ocela, Florida
Dear Farris: Re: Repeal Chapters 516.17, 516.28 and 519.11
I had requested Toe Henderson to draft lave repealing
above Chapters, and to draft a law simply stating what the existing
law in Florida was at to wage assignments, and after leaving the
supra-s courtHednesday, went by. Although I le at the 1961 session
I did not recall that you haVe raised the sans prepositions, sub
stantially, at that session, and had the conaittee freeze the proposal.
I have been infer-ad, free what I consider satisfactory
and reliable sources, that the sasll loan coapanies will not oppose
such a proposal at this session. They do, I as told, went to raise
the asount that the 3&5 interest can be charged upon from $300 to
$500, which of course, I could not go along with.
Having been assured of Associated Industries and Labor
Union support strange is it not, to have the: on the sane side -
I believe that the Inge assignment feature oust go, and, since small
credit clothiers are harassing industry here by demanding that the
elployer take out the entire amount due to e uege assignment, I threw
in the other law, solely so that no lawyer Iauld tell the employer
that a wage assign-ant was good, unless accepted by the employer.
Henderson indicated that Ayers went along with you on the
bill you proposed last session, and I was wondering if you felt you
would be open to proposing it again this year, and if so, would you
give no the benefit of your views, so we could get companion bills
to introduce at the same tine, to hasten relief for the oppressed.
Tharking you for any expression you feel you eight care
to sake, and assuring you I Iould treat it as confidential until
you are ready to release it, I an
cordially
