Goals, Florida

Dearw.nrysnt:

Thank you for your letter of January 27th,
and for your kind wishes for our success.

In regard to year question about the ne-
cessity to renegotiate contracts in order to procure itching
Federal Aid, I would like to advise that it is necessary for
the rederal engineers to approve the specifications, the bids
and the contracts executed on those jobs where Federal Aid is
available.

After the present Road Board took office
we inquired from the Federal District Engineers 11' it would be
possible to obtain aid on any of those projects where Federal
Aid was available, but mere the proceeding administration fail-
ed to request such Aid from the Federal Cover-mot. We were
informed by Ir. 8. P. mortar, the Regional District Ingineer
in Atlanta, and the local representative, that where contracts
had already been executed they could ,do nothing to help get
Federal Aid unless we could cancel out the cartrset and re-
advertise. we continued our efforts in this direction, but
our only success was in getting Vanhington to agree to nke a
rare exception and we occur Aid on the Gash Bridge. They
would not consider other projects.

If I can he of any assistance at any tine
please let 2 know.

Cordially,
Mite
