FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE . . . .
DANIA. Florida. Dec. 27 The Florida State Turnpike Authority will receive bids
Thursday (Jan. 5. 1956) for the last five of the 86 bridges which will carry the
Sunshine State Parkway over sideroads, canals and railroad tracks or which will
take sideroads over the turnpike.
Three of these bridges are located in Dade County. Two will take
the turnpike over Miami Gardens Drive and Snake Canal Creek and the third Dade
County span will carry Honeybill Road over the turnpike.
Of the two remaining Broward County bridges. one will take the
turnpike over Pembroke Road and the other will be located at the Hollywood Boulevard
Interchange to carry traffic to and from the turnpike Over the toll superhighway.
in addition the Turnpike Authority will receive bids for construction
of roadbed base [or a 10 mile section from the Golden Glades Interchange in Dade
County to Griffin Road in Broward County.
Bids will be received at that time also for the construction of the
deck and handrail tor the St. Lucie Bridge in Martin County. This is the largest
bridge on the Sunshine State Parkway and contracts already have been let for construct-
ion ol the substructure and superstructure.
The entire length of the llO-mile Miami to Fort Pierce toll super-
highway is now under contract for grading. draining and fencing.
All of the turnpike road contracts. including surfacing of the entire
length. will be awarded within the next six weeks.
