Hon. C. Farris Bryant
Representative
Ocala, Florida

Dear Farris:

This will acknowledge receipt or your communication
or the llth appointing me to the committee to meet
with the Advisory Council on Education in Tallahassee
on Wednesday, October 22nd. I greatly appreciate
your appointing me on this committee.

You will recall that the Education Committee or the
council is making a study or institutions or higher
learning and Frank Harris, Chairman or the Board of
Control, has invited our committee to meet with the
Finance Committee of the Board or Control at 9:00

in Jacksonville on Nednesday, October 22nd. It is

my feeling that the hearings to be conducted by the
Finance Committee on the proposed budget requests

of the institutions for the next biennium will be of
much benefit and I do not believe that invitations
have been extended to any other members or the Legis-
lature to attend. Since the meeting in Tallahassee
will be attended by several other members of the
House and Senate, including yourself, I feel like it
will be of more importance that the council Education
Committee attend the meeting in Jacksonville. 1 have,
accordingly, requested Sherman.to advise the other
members of the committee in this regard.

It is my feeling that the meeting in Tallahassee will
last practically all day and that what it will amount
to in the final analysis will be the proposals or the
Department of Education for the 1953 Session and that
I can pick this up from the minutes or the meeting.

It is also my feeling that whatever proposals come
out of the Tallahassee meeting the education pressure
groups will immediately start to work on and I would
certainly like to have your ideas relative to the
proposals. You will recall that I told you in Tampa
that the pressure groups were proposing a flat

20% budget increase and that I did not feel like

I could go along with them in this regard.

The list of committees for our consideration in
connection with our request is also received and as
soon as Perry and JOe and I can get together I will
send in my list. I think it well for Perry and Joe
and I to get together and agree on committee requests
so that you will not have to choose between two
requests from Polk County for the same committee.

With kind regards, I remain

Sincerely yours,

A. Roy Su es, Jr.
