3 Oct. 1951;

Dear Farris,

I enclose a couple hits of publicity which have recently
appeared. Publicity on a statewide basis, however, worries

me considerably and I think that we must strive fer better
coverage. The bonferences on Practical Politics, now shaping
uo foilampa, Gainesville and Ydemi, may tritide the vehicle
for t a.

Response from state crannisstions to my letter inviting
reoresentetives to Join the Advisory Commi tee is slow, on y

three of the fifteen having replied thus for.

A check for 50.00 has come in from Paul Helliwell, as you

may have noted from my quarterly reoort. I believe that we
shall coax some money from Charlie Andrews. and others here.

The people at Stetson are having quite a difficult time
making up their mind about sending a representative to the
Executive Committee -- all "too busy writing scholarly
articles or something. That remains the only four-year,
white college in the state which is not yet"e member
of the fraternity."

As renorted here briefly, you discussed a statewide system
of colleges and junior colleges havins state support, in Tempe
recently. I have studied the California educational system,
which has emerged since the war under influences similar to
those in Florida, and so have had thoughts somewhat similar
to yours for e couole years. would you be good enough to lend
me a cosy of your remarks, if you have same? If not, I'd like

to learn more about pour ideas the next time we meet. In my
view, this state wit in five years is coins to he in desoerate
shag: in the hieher education field if planning to meet the

ox

inf of new residents as well as growing young people does
not soon basin on e serious basis. We may be exoortine college
kids in 1300 as we eXnorted rotentisl doctors seeking medical
education for so long.

Yours as eVer,
