St. Petersburg The influential 3t. Potersburg Times has
endorsed the slate of Democratic nominees for State offices and
predicted Governor-aminee Ferris Bryant will be elected by "a con-
fortnble margin, and deservedly so."

The Times praised Bryant's legislative record and "his superb
knowledge of Florida's problems.

Pointing to the state's unique Cabinet system, the newspaper
noted, "For the Governor to exercise effC£ii"e executive leadership,
it is imperative that he poesruu the wern-st possible liaison with

the Legislatureu-vhich Hr. Brynnt has."

Then, The Times went down the line supporting the other Democratic
nominees.

0f Senator Tom Adams, the nominee for Secretary of State, the
newspaper remarked, "Few men have so quickly grasped the uhelo
spectrum of Florida's complex problems. In a single term as State
Senator he become an acknowledged and respected lender or that
seniority-worshipping body. Senator Adaxs' wider knowledge of
Florida's governmental affairs, HO think are needed in the office
of Secretary of State."

The St. Petersburg paper said, "Of all members or the State
Cabinet, there is none more deserving of a hearty vote of confidence
from Pinelles County and the whole Suncoast than Attorney General
Richard H. Ervin. It added that Ervin has been a strong, able and
judicial Attorney General and declared that "Dick Ervin has been the
most responsive, courteous and helpful high official in Tallahassee
during his entire 12 years in office. Florida voters should give him

a resounding token of appreciation."

In the state Treasurer's race, the editorial advised readers
"that by all means they should reelect Ed Lareon as State Treasurer."

It has been Florida's "good fortune," the newspaper said, to
hevc had Tom Bailey as State School Superintendent for the past 12
years. The editorial continued, In View of the extraordinarily
good job that Tom Bailey has done in meeting the staggering task of
supervising the doubling of our school facilities and faculties,
upgrading the academic standards of teachers and curricula, and
increasing the pay level of the expanded faculties, he richly merits
being retained as State Superintendent."

The Timos remarked that We feel that the Democratic incumbent,
Edwin L. Mason, is one or the best members the Railroad and Public
Utilities Commission has had in many years... Mr. Mason has just now
acquired enough experience in this complicated regulatory business

for his talents to be really valuable. Florida would do well, we
believe, to retain Ed mason on the RR&PUC."
