ATLANTA 2. GEORGIA

Sign: PATTERSON October 27, 1960

Governor-Nominate Farris Bryant
The State of Florida
Ocala, Florida

Dear Governor:

As a Kennedy supporter, let me tell you how
proud I was to see you present at our Jefferson-
Jackson Dinner last night. Your presence meant

a great deal to the South, as well as to Florida.

A local retired evangelist, Dr. Walt Holcombe,
tells me he told you he wanted to speak on the
religious issue. He asked me to write you and
vouch for him. To my knowledge he is a valiant
gentleman with credentials acquired in many seasons
on the evangelistic circuit. His view toward
religious criticism of Senator Kennedy is the
same that Sam Jones had: "I haven't got time to
Jump on the Catholic sinners. By the time I get
through with the Methodists, it's bedtime." Dr.
Holcombe seems content to speak from a street
corner, and if he does so I have told him I will
ask the AP to get us a news story on it.

With sincere best wishes for a successful administra-
tion, I am,

cerely your

Bug Patterson
