THE sinus: AREA COUNCIL ON HUMAN RELATIONS
oamue Inca. FLORIDA
November 25. 1960
NC. \ .
Governor-Elect Farris Bryant
Ocala, Florida
Dear lit. Bryant:
The Executive Cousitree of our Baliiax Area Council on lbman Relations has author-
iaad an to write this letter. First of all, let no offer to you nay Very best wishes
as you seem the heavy responsibility of guiding the destiny of our state during
the next iour years. It will certainly tax all of our combined wisdon and ingenuity
to face creatively and conetructivaly the problem which contront us during this
period of our history. May God's blensings and guidance be yours as you and we seek
to know and do His will, wherein lies our hope and peace.
More specifically I an writing to urge the continuance of the state-wide bioracial
cnsuittee of which Mr. Cody Fowler has been serving as chairman. in these daya and
tines one of our principal needs is to keep open the lines oi onunication between
responsible leadere of the two major racial groups in our at o. This conittee has
thus tar helped to establish contact. but it needs to be to inued if that contact
is to he developed into a core positive working relationshi that will enable all
of us to face and solve our problems in a spirit oi understa in; and good will.
its believe that our experience here in Daytona Beach gives visible proof of the
value of creative inter-relationship between the rates. Re have faced and solved
within the past few years teeny oi the problems which remain a continuing source of
tension and understanding in other casualties. Our quiet solution of many of
these vexing problems has been due to our ability to cmnicate with one another
and to arrive. by that process. at amicable and workable solutions. It is our sin-
cere conviction that our state bi-raclal connittee has within it the need which will
produce a similar harvest throughput our state. Therefore. we urge that you will
see to it that this :ousittee be maintained and that it move torvsrc with its in.
portant work.
At the close of our Union Thanksgiving Service here yesterday the inspiring words
oi "uterine The aeautlful" inpreased themselves upon no anew. and cause the to raise
this prayer for our state and for you during your caning adainlatration: Florida!
Florida! God shed hie grace on thee. and crown thy good with brotherhood iron sea
to shining seal"
