HERE IS THE STORY, CLEAR AND URDZRSTANDABL!

On Monday night, larch 28, Bryant and Carlton were quizzed on
Channel 10 in Kiami. Here was a test. If either candidate was
talking out of two sides of his mouth o- one side for liberal
areas and the other side for the rest of Florida -- here's where

it would show up. And it did!

On the program, both men were asked as to their opinion regarding
Governor Collins' TV program wherein Collins called upon merchants
to serve both white and Negro customers at the same lunch counters.

or in the same dining rooms.

Carlton actually replied: "I'm in the middle of the
road on this question, and I'm going to stay in the

middle of the road." Even the liberal newspaper,
"The Miami Herald," had to report Carlton's stand as

below.

Bryant replied, "A merchant has" both a mi and a
legal right to serve such customers as he himself
chooses in accordance with the Florida Constitution,
its laws and its traditions." And below you'll find
what the Herald had to say about his TV statement.

50, the issue is now drawn and we know exactly what these men stand
for. If you believe that a merchant is morally obligated to serve

both races in the same dining room area, that he does not have the
right of choice in the matter even though he owns the business

concerned, Doyle Carlton is your man.

If you believe that a merchant can serve whom he pleases in whatever
department he himself wishes to serve them in the spirit of free
enterprise. then Bryant is your man.
