Honorable Farris Bryant

Ocala, Florida

Dear Farris:

Enclosed herewith is a photo copy of a letter from
Chester J. Maxson. Mr. Maxson and Mr. leSieur called and
made 1Jet-'luxicgeclan 1313100intment;3:1thkmemsever&vgekstago.mh'ihey
are eres a names as Brow oun i s
is a different gmwmtmLWt 'Jacl msselnyian was
associated with. They spent some time impressing me with the _
caliber and financial worth of the men who are associated vith
them in this venture.

After admitting that they were both strong Carlton
supporters in the election, they desired me to advise them as
best I could as to the possibility of obtaining your aid or
agmement not to veto a hamess track bill. I advised them
I did not think there was any possibility of your agreeing
either to aid or not to veto, since you had made a comitment
against any extension of legalized gambling.

They then brought up the fact that there is in
existence at the present time a harness track license in St.
Augustine and stated they were negotiating for the mrchase
or it. The rice, according to them was $1 million,
and they then wan to know about the possibility if they
purchased the harness track in St. Augustine, of obtaining a
transfer of the license from St. Augustine to Ft. Lauderdale.
I told them that, so far as this proposition was concerned
I could not speak for you, that I was very douth that it
ecum be accomplished but that it was a question you vould
have to answer yourself.

Honorable Fer-r1: Bryant -2- 8-26-60

I enclose herewith a photo :3 of the letter which
I received from Mr. Mean, for your caution.

With kindest personal regards, I remain
Sincerely yours,
