Dear Farris:

I was in Ocala this past week and had hoped to see you personally for
a few minutes but found you were out of town.

I am most anxious to assist in setting up a meeting with you, Doyle
Connor and Tom Adams with the Central Florida Flood Control Board so
that the three of you might be better informed of their program and
of the necessity of pushing this project to the quickest possible
conclusion. At this particular moment, as you probably know, Central
Florida is in a bad way with high water and if we should have a storm
at this time it would not only damage millions of dollars worth of
property but it could mean the possible loss of lives.

I have had several conferences with Riley Miles of Kissimmee who has
recently been elected Chairman and I can assure you that their request
from the Legislature for funds will not be an unreasonable one. You
are probably aware that the State is required to furnish approximately
20% and the Federal Government 80%.

It is the desire of the Board to set up a meeting with the three of you
at their headquarters office in West Palm Beach sometime within the near
future so that you can meet their engineers. They could quickly and
completely give the history of the whole project and of their plans aui
its completion. They would be happy to meet with you in Ocala or
Tallahassee but since they have maps and so forth readily available in
the Palm Beach office, I am certain they could do a better Job of
explaning it to you down there.

I have not contacted Doyle or Tom and will not until I am advised of
your thoughts but I feel confident that they will be willing to go
along with any plans that you might agree to.
