Good evening. By way of introduction, my name is.______________
I am (profession or business) I am here to speak in behalf of
Farris Bryant.

This being my first appearance in this campaign. I feel like a
Greek lawmaker. You know the Greeks were pretty serious about their
politics' and when a man proposed a law, he had to stand on a plat-
form with a rope around his neck. If his law passed; they removed the
rupe' and if his law was defeated, they removed the platform.

You have all been given e folder which tells you the record that
Ferris Bryant has made, and of the honors that have been given to him
for his diligent work in our state legislature. Please read it; and
read what the different newspapers have had to say about him.

Many issues have been brought forward in this campaign, and time
does not permit me to refer to all of them: so I'll restrict myself
to the points which I believe are most important to you. In the first
place, Farris Bryant stands for governmental economy. He does not
say to you, "Forget what I've done in the past, I'll be for economy
in the future." Farris Bryant has stood for economy in government
for so long that to the members of the legislature he is known as Mr.
Economy. As your governor he will continue his efforts to see that
the people of Florida get the most for every dollar spent.

Ferris Bryant stands for improved school systems. both grade
school and higher. The critical class room needs must be met, and
Farris Bryant feels that they can be met through economy measures in
our state government. College educations also mean a great deal in
our modern life, and I know that many of you earnestly desire to give
your children the benefit of a college education. For this reason.
Farris Bryant feels that State Junior Colleges should he established 1.

some sections or the state, and that several four-year community

-2-
colleges should be established in populated areas. This would enable
many of us to give our children a college education near home who
could not afford the expenses of sending them away to school if by
that time there is room enough at any school to send them to!

Farris Bryant has long been known in Florida government for his
fairness and his willingness to fight for all the people. Re is not
supported by the DuPont interests. He is not supported by Mr. Wolfson.
nor Mr. Big, nor the bootleggers or gamblers. He is supported by the
average people; such as you and I, who want the best government possibl

On the issue of segregation. all of the candidates have had much tt
say, and Farris Bryant is no exception. He has three children of
school age; his wife has been a teacher. The distinction between the
candidates on this issue is relatively simple. One says, "I will keep
segregation," but he doesn't say how. because he has no plan-only a
desire. Although this may be commendable, it can hardly be effective.
We need a man with a plan. The other two candidates say much, although
not so loudly, but their records refute their statements. Farris
Bryant stands strongly for segregation, and he is the only candidate
with a plan that will maintain segregation. This cannot be accomp-
lished by shouting from the housetops; it must be done by matching
brains against brains, and through cooperation with the neighboring
states. Through these means, and through the acceleration of steps
taken to make the facilities for negroes ecual as well as separate,
segregation can and will be maintained.

Farris Bryant is a man of proven ability, honesty, and integrity.
Our state needs such a man as its Governor. Therefore I ask you to
vote for him, not Just because you think he will win,but because your

as Governor. So Be for Bryant, for t e good of all Florida, and
Bryant will be for you!
