Honorable Farris Bryant
Offices or Bryant for Governor
Ocala, Florida

Deer Farris:

I am enclosing herewith copy of n letter
anent the sugar situation, which is self-explanatory,
tut also indicative of the need for action.

1 was discussing this noon, at lunch. with
one of the executives of Okeeianta, an article which had
appeared in some trade magazine that he had discarded, and
which I did not see. written by someone presuming to have
authentic information, in which he stated that Florida
could produce anout six milIIOn tons of sugar on about
two or three million acres or land which was available
for planting. This also is the type or thing we should
attempt to block by the formation or a sugar commission.
This kind or statement only can lead to ultimate grief.

and a tendency to discount every true statement we mane
about Florida's sugar potential.

As you know, i tried to reach you by tele-
phone today, and hope that when the opportunity arises,
you will return the call. Thin was to discuss nu entirely
different matter with you.

What would you think about having a legisle-
tive bill ready for presentation at the next session which
would create u Ploridn Sugar Commission, modeled somewhat
along the lines of the Florida Citrus Commission? This
would give the auger committee on official status, which
might be of tremendous benefit.

Honorable Farris Bryant -2- 19 September 1060

with kindest personal regards and best
wishes, I remain

Sincorolz,

W23"
