Dear Chief:
In the past the Governors' Inaugural Committtes and
the City of Tallahassee have requested the assistance of other
police Departments to aid the Tallahassee Police Department in
handling the traffic and parking during the inauguration cere-
monies. Therefore, as Chief of Police and Chairman of the
Traffic and Parking Committee for the Inauguration of Governor-
Elect Farris Bryant, I invite your City to send at least two
police officers, with their own transportation to help in the
handling of traffic, Inauguration Day, January 3, 1961. If your
City can participate in this program it will be appreciated not
only by the Inaugural Committee but the City of Tallahassee.
The officers you send should have one man appointed
in charge. It will be necessary for them to report to the
Tallahassee Police Department by 6:45 A.M. on January 3rd ready
for assignment and to remain as long as necessary. possibly,
until early the following morning. Your City will be expected
to bear the expense of all officers sent.
Please advise me immediately how many men you can send
and their type of transportation. Also, advise if I can assist
them in getting lodging. We have made arrangements with Florida
State University in securing one of their barracks at their camp
five miles from town. These barracks have double decker beds and
are sparsely furnished but for the price of $1.50 per night per
person, are suitable. These barracks have been reserved for both
January 2nd and January 3rd.
